The Competition

The Britannia Dance Championships began with one clear mission: to celebrate ProAm dancers as the stars they truly are.

Since launching in 2019, we've grown into a dynamic, internationally recognised event — welcoming dancers of all levels and hosting multiple World and European Championship titles.

In 2023, Britannia was proudly voted the UK’s No1 ProAm competition — a reflection of our ongoing commitment to high-quality production, warm hospitality, and an unmatched experience for competitors and spectators alike.

Today, our weekend features:

  • World & European Championship titles

  • ProAm spotlight categories and teacher/student recognition

  • Open level events for all age groups

  • Solo and showcase performance opportunities

What sets us apart is not only our production quality — but a genuinely warm, inclusive atmosphere that keeps dancers coming back year after year.

Gala Dinner & Dance

The Britannia Gala Dinner & Dance is the highlight of the weekend — an unforgettable black-tie evening that blends elegance, entertainment, and world-class dancing in a spectacular setting.

Held in the beautifully dressed ballroom of the Hilton at the Utilita Bowl, guests are treated to a three-course fine dining experience, complete with live performances, celebrity hosts, and the atmosphere of a premier gala event.

The evening includes:

  • The Grand Finals of the Britannia ProAm Championships, showcasing the weekend’s top competitors across all styles

  • Cabaret performances by international stars and past World & European champions

  • ProAm Showcases and featured showdances

  • The return of our Amateur Invitational Competition, featuring some of the finest couples in the world

In 2025, the Gala was co-hosted by James Prouton and Strictly Come Dancing’s Kai Widdrington, and featured performances from the World Latin Champions and European Ballroom Champions.

2026 promises to be even more exciting, with plans already underway to bring in top-tier talent from across the globe.

World Cup ProAm Series

In 2026, The Britannia Dance Championships becomes an official member of the World Cup ProAm Series — a curated network of internationally respected ProAm events committed to excellence, professionalism, and dancer experience.

The Series connects dancers, teachers, and studios across Europe, the US, and beyond — promoting global collaboration, recognition, and high-level performance standards.

As part of this circuit, Britannia 2026 will be classified as a Double Point Event, meaning all competitors will earn twice the standard points toward their World Cup rankings.

Points accumulated throughout the Series contribute to year-end rankings for Teachers, Students, and Studios, with the top performers awarded during the FabuLous Cup — the final event of the annual calendar.

In addition, a €30,000 prize pool is distributed among the highest-ranking teachers and studios across the circuit.

Britannia is proud to represent the UK on this global stage, offering dancers the opportunity to be part of a truly international ProAm journey — while enjoying the prestige and warm hospitality our event is known for.

In Partnership with the BDSA

Britannia has proudly partnered with the British DanceSport Association (BDSA) since its inception in 2023, and we remain committed to supporting its dancer-first, progressive mission.

In both 2024 and 2025, our Sunday Open events were held under the BDSA banner, and we are pleased to continue this partnership for 2026.

The BDSA represents a fresh approach to UK DanceSport — focused on transparency, structure, inclusion, and putting dancers at the centre of every decision. We believe in this ethos and are proud to be one of the first major events to support the association.

Through our partnership, Britannia provides competitors with a platform that reflects the modern direction of dance in the UK — one rooted in fairness, opportunity, and community.

Supporting Our Community

At Britannia, we believe in using dance to make a difference.

Over the years, we’ve proudly supported a range of charitable organisations through fundraising, visibility, and community involvement.

Our partnerships reflect the values we hold as an event — compassion, connection, and making a lasting impact beyond the competition floor.

Charities we have supported include:

  • The Rose Road Association

  • Wessex Heartbeat

  • British Heart Foundation

  • Southampton Hospital Charity

We look forward to continuing this tradition of giving back in 2026 and beyond.
